Istmus is the fifth world in the Constanthus system, a rocky, ice-locked ball unfit for human life. It is used as a training ground by the Imperial Guard. Water-ice is mined and purified to slake the thirst of the hives.
Major settlements include the prison city of Carceri and the mining complex Wellspring. The latter is owned by the Amanthus family. The planet has been used as a refuelling station by xenos in the past, and xeno artefacts have been found entombed in billion-year-old ice. There is no native life, but bio-engineered lichen from an earlier terraforming effort are a plague to miners.
